About Dilip Puranik

The founder, architect and teacher of TablaGyan - Dilip Puranik has a deep inclination towards music. Dilip Puranik has been playing Tabla for over 25 years now. Born in a family of musicians - son of Shri Ramesh Puranik, a harmonium player by choice and Smt. Kasturi Puranik, a natural singer, Dilip has had music in his blood since birth..! With the grace of Goddess Saraswathi and blessings of elders, Dilip Puranik has carved out a niche by himself and groomed into a performing artist and teacher over the years. He has sought the tutelage of a lineage of Gurus including Pandit. Prahlad Raj Mokashi (from Dharwad), Pandit. Laxmeesh Rao (Sirsi) who is a gurubandhu of the Tabla-God Ustadji. Zakir Hussain. Shri Dilip Puranik is also a National Awardee in 2013 for his contribution in Music.

Dilip obtained his initial Taleem from Pandit. Prahlad Raj Mokashi in Gharanas Delhi and Banaras. Later on, he obtained specialised training in Punjabi Gharana from Pandit. Laxmeesh Rao and few other senior disciples of Ustad. AllaRakha (Abbaji - Father of Ust. Zakir Hussain) in Punjabi Gharana.

Dilip Puranik has since then accompanied leading vocalists and instrumentalists - flute, sitar. He accompanies all kinds of music - Classical music, light music, ghazals, fusion music, etc.,

The music school - TablaGyan is Dilip's dream come true and aims at nurturing the talent in the young minds. Dilip has very carefully nurtured this brainchild of his for more than a decade now and has plans for more contribution towards music.
